In case you missed it, Ed Davey recently spoke out to say that Kanye West should be banned from entering the UK altogether ahead of his scheduled headlining appearance at the Wireless Festival this summer.
While speaking to LBC’s Political Editor Natasha Clark, Davey made it clear he believes officials need to take strong action. He reportedly said the Home Secretary should follow the same path as Australia and block West from entering the country due to his history of anti-Semitic remarks.
As many already know, Kanye, who now goes by Ye, has faced major backlash over the years for controversial statements about Jewish people. One of the moments that sparked heavy criticism included him releasing a song titled “Heil Hitler,” which intensified outrage from advocacy groups and public leaders.
Despite the ongoing backlash, Ye is still scheduled to headline the Wireless Festival in London, a move that has cause 3 major brands to drop their sponsorships, and already stirring strong reactions from Jewish organizations and city leadership, including Sadiq Khan.
In a press statement, a spokesperson for the London mayor said:
“We are clear that the past comments and actions of this artist are offensive and wrong, and are simply not reflective of London’s values. This was a decision taken by the festival organisers and not one that City Hall is involved in.”
West has repeatedly used his platform to spread antisemitism and pro-Nazi messaging. His most recent apology must be considered in the context that he went on to sell swastika T-shirts and release a song called Heil Hitler after apologizing previously.
Earlier this year, Ye attempted to address the backlash by taking out a two-page ad in The Wall Street Journal apologizing for his anti-Semitic comments. The 48-year-old attributed his behavior to struggles with bipolar disorder, something he has publicly discussed in the past, and this wasn’t the first time he issued an apology, as he made a similar statement back in 2023.
Still, the fallout continues to grow.
Festival organizers behind the Wireless Festival stood firm in their decision, saying in a press release that West’s “UK comeback will be an extraordinary chapter in Wireless’s story.”
But not everyone is staying on board.
As of April 6, 2026, at least three major brands have already pulled their support after learning that Kanye is set to headline all three nights of the festival.
That includes beverage giant PepsiCo, which had been the festival’s headline sponsor since 2015, along with drinks powerhouse Diageo, the company behind brands like Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, Guinness, Baileys, Smirnoff, and Cîroc.
Payment company PayPal has also reportedly withdrawn its branding from the event.
As of now, Kanye West has not released a public statement addressing the growing pressure, the sponsor exits, or the calls for him to be banned from the UK.
