‘Mattress Mack’ Turns His Furniture Stores Into Warm Shelters For Houston Residents During Historic Snowstorm

Jim McIngvale is taking action! The business owner who’s better known as Mattress Mack has opened up two of his stores for warming centers as Houston endures the ongoing arctic blast.

Mack said the showrooms will be open for Houstonians who need a warm place to stay and food to eat. While they’re encouraging residents to take extreme caution while navigating the roads to get to the showrooms, Gallery Furniture is also letting residents know that COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed, and people are asked to bring extra masks in case others may need them.

As WRKN News notes, the shelters are located at his stores at 6006 North Freeway in Houston and 7227 West Grand Parkway South in Richmond. “The cold is bitter, so we’re opening up the doors to Houstonians,” Mattress Mack said, adding that there is security around-the-clock.

While speaking with ABC, he spoke about his decision to move quickly to help those in need:

“Rather than complain about what should have been done, let’s just do things that are good for the community. Get people out here. Whether they want to stay for two hours until their power gets back on, or they want to stay for two days, we’re here for the community,” he said.
