Matt Barnes is currently being investigated by police over an incident with his fiancée’s ex-husband, David Patterson Jr, on Sunday, which ended in the former athlete spitting on him. According to TMZ, the two crossed paths during Sunday’s playoff game between the Cowboys and the Francisco 49ers at the Levis’ Stadium in Santa Clara, but according to court docs filed by Barnes, Patterson was the aggressor in the situation.
The 42-year-old is now said to have filed a temporary restraining order against Patterson Jr. who he accuses of instigating the scuffle between them, claiming he was “hunted” down before being “aggressively” confronted. During their encounter, Barnes claimed Patterson Jr. hurled insults and threats at him in a supposed attempt to provoke him.

He further alleges that Patterson Jr. eventually got physical when he pushed Barnes, and in an attempt to avoid the situation spiraling out of control at the public event, the ex-NBA player admitted to spitting on him. “Out of frustration with him seeking me out and his unrelenting repeated harassment I spit in his direction in disgust.”
In court docs obtained by The Blast, Barnes further claimed Patterson Jr. may have been threatening him long before their situation during the NFL game, alleging how another incident led her fiancée’s ex to scare Barnes by saying he would shoot him with his gun.
It’s unclear as to why Patterson Jr. is said to have been coming for Barnes, though it would be easily assumed that it may have something to do with the sports star now being in a relationship with Anansa Sims, though this has not been verified.
“Following repeated violent threats, including threatening to shoot me with his “Glock” (a type of gun) and a recent physical confrontation at an NFL playoff game, I am seeking a civil harassment restraining order against David B. Patterson, Jr. David is the ex-husband of my current fiancée.”

In the docs, Barnes says he’s been fearing for his life and the well-being of Sims and the well-being of the children she shares with Patterson Jr. Sims has since also filed a restraining order against her ex, the court-filed paperwork revealed.
“About two months ago, after a trial, my fiancee was granted a permanent three-year restraining order against David for her protection and the protection of their three minor children.”
Cops are reportedly still investigating the incident on Sunday.
