Maryland Man Fresh Out The Slammer Accused Of Stealing 5-Ton Military Truck & Leading Cops On Highway Chase

The Maryland man has been identified as 38-year-old Michael D. Stevens II, of Abingdon. On Friday (May 12), he was released from the Harford County Detention Center, but was sent right back after being accused of stealing a 5-ton military vehicle and taking police on a highway chase.

Officials from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office say at around 6:35 p.m., deputies responded to a home in the town of Bel Air after receiving a report that someone had stolen a 1986 923-A 5-ton military vehicle, which was privately owned.

Authorities would soon identify Stevens as their suspect, who they say drove the military vehicle through Bel Air and then onto a highway, identified as Interstate 95.

Deputies added that they pursued Stevens all the way down the interstate, trying to use several mechanisms and techniques, like stop sticks (also known as spike strips), to stop and disable the vehicle, but all to no avail.

Deputies added that Stevens eventually made his way into Baltimore City, where they said he stopped on Conkling Street. While there, he exited the huge vehicle and then tried to flee the scene on foot. However, that was to no avail, as officials eventually caught up to him, and safely made an arrest.

Despite the man crashing the 5-ton truck into several other “civilian vehicles” during his chase, fortunately the Sheriff’s Office reported that there were no injuries.

After appearing in court, Stevens was ordered by the judge to be held without any bond. Meanwhile, his bail review, which will be in front a judge, is scheduled for early this week.
