R&B crooner Mario is catching some heat after having some trouble deciding if fellow R&B singer Bryson Tiller can actually sing or not. He also comments on other R&B singers like: Chris Brown, Omarion, The Weeknd, Trey Songz, Ray J, Bobby Valentino, and Jacquees.

While sitting down for a new interview with NFL player-turned-podcaster, Cam Newton, the “Let Me Love You” singer revealed whether or not he believed the aforementioned singers could sing sing. In an October 31-released episode of ‘Funky Friday,’ Newton told Mario, “Every singer can’t sing,” before asking his opinion on other R&B singers.

Mario Has Trouble Deciding If Bryson Tiller Can Actually Sing

Newton directed the singer to use his opinion to judge the artists he rambled off. First up was “Don’t” singer Bryson Tiller. Mario immediately let out a laugh while throwing his head back. After grinning for a few seconds, Mario said, “Listen, if Bryson wanted to sing more, he could.” Unsatisfied, Newton declared, “It’s either a yes or a no.”

Mario acknowledged, “I feel you. I would say…” He again burst into a light chuckle with huge grin. He attempted to speak, saying, “Listen, I…,” but again, fell into laughter. With his head down in his iPad full of questions, Newton remained quiet, impatiently awaiting a “yes” or “no” answer.

Mario offered, “I never heard Bryson sing live, without…just no mic, no nothing. So, I don’t know.” Mario again laughed while adding, “I’m gonna be honest with you. I don’t know, bro. I mean, yeah, he can sing. He can’t sang, but he can sing. He can sing, but he can’t sing, bro.”

Newton, still unappeased with Mario’s answer, declared, “Listen, dog. This is ‘Funky Friday,’ where we keep it funky. Always funky. It’s yes or no, bro.” Mario again burst into laughter, causing Newton to state, “It’s a definite yes or definite no.” He stopped laughing and said, “That’s not f[air]—you know what’s crazy?” Newton replied, “It is.”

Mario said, “No, hold on. Wait, listen, hear me out, though. ‘Cause it’s like, you can’t discredit bro’s… Listen, Bryson…” Meanwhile, Newton took his hat off, twirled it around, and looked at it, before declaring, “Cap!” Mario laughed and Newton asked, “What you say? It’s a yes or a [no]… Bro, you making it awkward. I ain’t making it awkward.” Mario clarified:

“No, it’s not awkward. It’s not awkward because it’s just one of them things where it’s like, I heard songs and I’m like, ‘Yo, I like the way bro sliding on there.’ You know what I’m saying? Then, some songs [it’s] like he not really singing. He’s not a singer. He’s trying to sing.”

Newton still unsatisfied asked Mario without looking at him, “Definite yes. Definite no.” Mario added, “It’s not a fair question, bro. I can’t answer that. It’s not…” Fed up, Newton interjected, “Don’t worry about it. I got you. We’ll come back.”

Mario Attempts To Flip The Script On Cam Newton After Having Trouble Directly Answering If Bryson Tiller Can Sing Or Not

Mario then tried to flip the script and put in Newton in the hot seat. He attempted to ask him the same question but in NFL terms. He said, “If somebody made it to your team, he made it to the league, but you might question certain things about how he play or whatever, is he still a football player? He’s a**. But you got to pass the ball to him.”

Newton immediately shut down the scenario and said he would never be in that situation. The former NFL player told the singer he didn’t ask the question correctly in order to get a response out of Newton that he’s pressing to be answered.

Concluding their NFL dialogue, Newton again asked, “Can he play or can he not? Yes or no? In your opinion.” Mario finally answered, “To my standards, no.” Newton acknowledged, “Thank you. We just went on a whole rant about this, that, caps being pulled off, you over here…” Mario interjected, “Sometimes that’s what it takes to get the answer.”

Newton then asked Mario if Trey Songz can sing. He replied, “Yeah, Trey can sing.” Newton acknowledged “how easy that was,” but the singer said, “Because it’s a different type of singer, man.” Newton apologized, “Sorry. To your liking and your metrics.” Mario said, “Yes. Yeah. Absolutely.”

Newton asked about The Weeknd and Mario said, “Yes.” Newton asked about Ray J, and Mario paused and took a deep breathe. He finally offered, “You know what? Ray J can sing when he want to, bro.” Newton said, “Man, come on.” Mario added, “I said Ray J can sing. He be doing runs and sh*t. Like, he wrote some… Yeah he can sing.” Newton asked, “It’s a hard yes or…?” Mario said, “It’s not a hard yes, but it’s a yes. Yeah, he can sing.”

When asked about Jacquees, Mario said, “Yeah, he can sing. He can sing. Bro, you’re asking if somebody can sing. Sure somebody in here can sing. Is it going to sound good? I don’t know.” After some push back from Newton, Mario added, “He can sing, he can sing. He can’t sang, but he can sing, he can sing. He be on key.”

When asked about Omarion, Mario took a deep breath and said, “Omarion,” then took another deep breath. He finally answered, “It be hit or miss for me sometimes.” Newton asked about Bobby V and he said, “He can sing.” Newton asked about C Breezy and Mario said, “Yeah, he can sing.”

Newton then doubled back to Bryson Tiller and asked Mario, “To your standards, can he sing?” The “Crying Out For Me” singer laughed and asked, “Bro, why you stuck on Bryson, bro?” He then offered, “To my standards of what I believe in singing… He’s cool. Bryson cool, bro. He cool, bro.”

Newton quipped, “N***a, you lying. Stop lying, bro.” Mario insisted:

“He cool, bro. He cool. He cool. He cool. You can tell by my reaction, what I mean. Like, he cool. ‘Cause it’s like, me personally, I’m not about to go and look for him for vocal chops, bro. I’m not looking for Bryson for vocal chops. But, I’m looking for Bryson for cadence, when he taking it serious. Pen, when he’s taking it serious, for sure. Like, if Mario singing a Bryson song, it’s different from Bryson singing a Bryson song. You’re going to feel lit in a different way. But, he’s had hits. So, it’s like he did what he do. Bro, honestly, he cool. He can’t not not sing. He cool. He cool.”
