A years-long civil case tied to the death of Nicki Minaj’s father has officially been settled, closing out a legal fight that’s been weighing on the family since 2021.
Court documents obtained by TMZ show that Carol Maraj reached an agreement in early March with Charles Polevich, the driver convicted in the fatal hit-and-run that killed Robert Maraj.
While the exact terms of the settlement haven’t been made public, the deal puts an end to the wrongful death lawsuit she filed after losing her husband.
More On The Incident:
As previously reported, the incident itself dates back to February 2021, when Robert Maraj, 65, was crossing a road in Long Island, New York. Polevich struck him and kept it moving, leaving the scene instead of stopping to help.
Investigators later caught up with him using surveillance footage, leading to charges he ultimately pleaded guilty to, leaving the scene of a collision and tampering with evidence. He served time following that conviction.
Carol Maraj’s lawsuit centered on the real-life impact of that loss, seeking damages tied to the absence of her husband’s companionship and support. Not just legal language, but the everyday presence that was taken from her.
The case also picked up extra attention along the way when Polevich attempted to subpoena Nicki Minaj for a deposition, reportedly aiming to question her about lyrics referencing her childhood in an effort to challenge claims about the family’s relationship. That move was ultimately dropped and did not proceed.
Now, with both sides reaching an agreement, the civil matter is officially wrapped. After years of court filings and headlines, this marks the end of the legal road in a case that started with a devastating loss and carried on far beyond it.
Nicki Minaj has not publicly spoken out on the settlement.
