Divorces are tough and can leave a dent in your financial situation, but, one man wasn’t letting his ex get the best of him.
A Canadian man hated his ex-wife so much, that he set fire to over $1 million so that she couldn’t get her hands on it in the form of spousal support.
Bruce McConville, 55, is a businessman from Ottawa. He sold numerous properties that he owned before withdrawing the cash from the bank and burning it.
He told the judge that he burned the money in two separate bonfires, $743,000 on Sept. 23 and then $296,000 on Dec. 15.
“How does destroying over a million dollars advance your child’s best interest?” Superior Court Justice Kevin Phillips asked. “You understand that’s hard to believe?”
“I find what you have done to be morally reprehensible,” added Phillips.
McConville was then sentenced to 30 days in prison after he didn’t pay $300,000 in spousal and child support.
