An Iowa man is facing a kidnapping charge after he allegedly kidnapped a woman and forced her to watch “Roots” in order to understand racism and privilege.

According to the New York Post, 52-year-old Robert Lee Noye of Cedar Rapids was arrested Monday for kidnapping the victim and forcing her to watch the 1977 miniseries “Roots.” During the nine-hour marathon, Noye told the victim if she tried to escape, he was going to “kill her and spread her body parts across Interstate 380 on the way to Chicago,”
He faces a first-degree harassment and false imprisonment charge as reported by the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

“Roots” first premiered on ABC in 1977 and was nominated with a record breaking 37 Emmy nominations and won 9. The series is based on the book, “Roots: The Saga of an American Family” by Alex Haley.
