Man Dies Of Heart Attack While Watching Avatar: The Way Of Water

A man reportedly died of a heart attack while watching James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water with his brother in India.

Lakshmireddy Srinu and his brother, Raju, went to a local movie in Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada district to watch the sequel. During the film, Srinu collapsed during the movie and his brother rushed him to Peddapuram Government Hospital where he later died from the heart attack. Accoring to India Today, this is not the first time someone died while watching the films.

A 42-year-old man in Taiwan died under similar circumstances while watching the first ‘Avatar’ movie during its release in 2010. Doctors said he had a history of high blood pressure and was ‘over-excited’ from watching the movie which triggered his symptoms. However, experts said there are underlying factors that could trigger sudden  heart attacks such as high blood pressure, genetics, and obesity.

When you have got risk factors, all these things can cause development of small blockages in heart arteries which under stressful conditions can rupture and cause heart attack. Cardiac arrest can be due to heart attack or rhythm disturbances too. There are some genetic conditions that can cause it. Whenever there is acute stress, mental stress, physical stress it can cause rhythmic disturbances. Sudden arrhythmias can cause heart attack,” Dr Sanjeev Gera, Director and HOD of Cardiology at Fortis Hospital, told Hindustan Times.

“There is one condition called coronary dissection. The arteries that are supplying to heart can suddenly get dissected or get ruptured that can cause heart attack, causing sudden cardiac arrest and death.”

Social media reacts to the incident and posted different reactions

Although the movie theatre is supposed to be a fun experience for all, Srinu’s death left Twitter users stunned by his sudden death and said it made them want to watch the movie now. However, some assumed he reportedly died of “boredom” because of Avatar’s three-hour run time.
