Danny Lemoi administered a daily dose of the livestock drug in 2012 after he was diagnosed with Lyme disease. He decided to stop taking other medications because he believed the drug “regenerated” his heart. He developed a following after ivermectin became an alternative for COVID-19 treatments for anti-vaxxers, as reported by Raw Story. Some of his followers used the drug for themselves and to treat their children with autism, Down syndrome, and other conditions. However, they also experienced side effects from prolonged use of the drug.

“Though it was obvious that Danny had the biggest heart, it was unbeknownst to him that his heart was quite literally overworking and overgrowing beyond its capacity, nearly doubled in size from what it should have been. We understand that this will raise questions for those following him,” one of the moderators wrote on his Telegram channel.

One of his followers said they were experiencing restless leg syndrome and felt pain below the waist. “I’m 4 months now, and all hell’s breaking loose, all pain has hit my waist down with sciatic, shin splints, restless leg syndrome, tight sore calves & it feels like some pain in the bones,” they wrote in the channel.

Another member said their wife had been taking the medication for three months and she’s been experiencing symptoms of herxing. Herxing is the body’s response to people who take antibiotics as a treatment for Lyme disease.

“She is being treated for autoimmune hepatitis, thyroid, and vertebrae issues. She has had some serious HERXING. Today she has a migraine, vomiting and severe stomach pain. Does anyone have any ideas how to help, and are these HERXING symptoms?”

The medication is used as an overall treatment for all ailments as some believe their diseases are carrying a parasite as reported by Vice News. However, some didn’t believe that Lemoi died because of the consistent treatments of ivermectin and blamed “western medication” for his death. “He ultimately died because of our failed western medicine which only cares about profits and not the cure,” one of the members wrote.

Ivertmectin has garnered controversy throughout the COVID-19 pandemic as some people did not believe in the vaccine although the livestock medication has been debunked by scientists and medical experts.
