Man Convicted Of Killing Michael Jordan’s Father Granted Parole

Larry Demery, one of the two men convicted of killing Michael Jordan‘s father in July of 1993, has now been granted parole and will be released on August 6, 2023. In 1996, Demery, then 17,  was convicted of the first degree murder of James Jordan, who was shot in the chest while sleeping in his Lexus at a rest stop off Highway 74 in Robeson County, North Carolina three years prior.

However, Demery didn’t act alone and was accompanied by his friend, Daniel Green. After the fatal shooting, the two stole Jordan’s car and dumped his body off a bridge in South Carolina. The two were then convicted and sentenced to life in prison. During their trial, Demery claims the two were only planning to tie up their victim, but Green decided to pull the trigger. Although Green never testified, he claims he wasn’t present when Jordan was shot, but did admit to helping dump the body.

While Green’s attorneys have tried several times to get a new trial, their attempts have been unsuccessful. Meanwhile, at 45, Demery has learned his parole has been approved. Reports state that due to North Carolina’s current sentencing law, called structured sentencing, parole is now an option as his crime was committed before October 1, 1994.
