The passenger, identified as Khalil El Dahr, was sitting in the sixth row on JetBlue flight 261 when he reportedly tried to make a phone call during the flight and became upset when the call didn’t go through. An affidavit from the FBI said the incident took place 45 minutes before the flight’s arrival to San Juan when El Dahr exited out of his seat and ran to the cockpit, yelling that he wanted to be shot.

Dahr also attacked a flight attendant who attempted to block him from the cockpit but was strangled and kicked in the chest during the altercation. “While EL DAHR was yelling, he was still holding the JetBlue (flight attendant) by their tie. This resulted in the tie tightening and ultimately prevented the JetBlue FA from breathing,” the affidavit reads.

It took approximately seven flight crew members to restrain El Dahr and they used makeshift restraints to control him until the plane landed safely in San Juan. Upon its arrival, federal officers arrested El Dahr and said he will be facing a felony charge of interference with flight crew members and attendants.
