Man Arrested For Stealing 2 Million Masks Amidst Coronavirus
A man from Spain tried to come all the way up after stealing around 2 million face masks and then sold all but 100 of them off!
According to the Metro UK, the suspect, identified only as the director of a well-known local real estate firm, somehow managed to swipe the masks and other protective equipment back in February from a locked warehouse in the city of Santiago de Compostela — a place where a medical supplies company that had gone into liquidation was storing them, according to police.

While the Spanish government was forced to make an emergency purchase of face masks from China as the virus infected its citizens, the thief sold the items to contacts in Portugal! Vice president of the Xunta de Galicia regional government, Alfonso Rueda, visited the theft site on Monday and found that only about 100 of the 2M protective masks were left untouched.
“The police received a tip-off that there could have been valuable health equipment here which would have been so necessary in the fight against COVID-19. It had been cleaned out by the time they arrived. We calculate 2 million face masks have been stolen. Only the boxes are left,” he said, according to Metro.
Rueda added,
“There are also empty boxes which contained surgical gloves but we don’t know at this stage exactly how many are missing.”
The man was eventually identified and later arrested by authorities. According to the site, he has already made an initial court appearance and was released on bail. The judicial investigation is reportedly still underway.
