Police in Russia say that they received a call from a concerned employee of the woman. Upon doing a welfare check at her house, cops were left horrified after finding the woman’s body lifeless and partially eaten by her 20 felines.

It is reported that the woman was a cat breeder who housed 20 giant Maine Coon pedigree cats in her own home in Russia’s Bataysk, Rostov area. The woman’s employees said they had not had any contact with their boss, so one of them alerted police.

Local authorities say that they believe the woman had been dead for at least two weeks, judging by her decomposing remains.

Animal Rescue Expert Says 20 Pet Cats Who Fed On Russian Owner Were Resold

One animal rescue expert, who had helped to care for some of the surviving cats, said, “The cats were left alone on their own for two weeks, there was no food, so what else to eat? It’s understandable right? They ate what there was.”

The expert also revealed that some of the healthier cats who survived the incident have since been given new homes. However, the new owners, who paid about $35 per cat, may or may not have been made aware of their new pet’s interesting diet including human flesh.

20 Pet Cats That Fed On Russian Owner Were Identified As ‘The Gentle Giant’ Maine Coon Cats

Apparently, Maine Coon cats, which are known as “gentle giants,” are recognizable by their large size. They, without saying, have origins in the United States state of Maine. This pedigree cat breed is apparently really popular, as it sits at the number three spot on the world pet cat popularity list.

Despite most pet cats’ passive nature, studies have shown that cat owners who die at home are at risk of being eaten alive by their starving felines.

Apparently, stories similar to these are more common than not. A couple of scientists in Colorado once claimed that they made a shocking discovery when two cats broke into their research center and began to dine in on a few decomposing corpses.

The two researchers say that the cats would continue to come back to the bodies over several weeks. They said that the cats had a “taste for arm tissues” and also liked to eat the flesh around the chest and shoulders of the cadavers.
