Now, the couple is currently in custody, but there have been new updates in the case involving the former teacher, Cynthia Perkins, 35, and her former sheriff deputy husband Dennis Perkins, 44.

According to The Advocate, the couple recently had a civil complaint filed against them, the fourth so far, claiming the couple fed the tainted baked goods to a class at Westside Junior High School in 2018 and 2019. Not only is the school board also being sued in the filing, but Dennis is now looking at a separate charge of sexually abusing an animal!

A father of a victimized student claims in the lawsuit that he has not been able to find work after the incident due to severe depression, per the outlet. A mother claims she and her child have suffered mental health issues and insomnia since the allegations arose. To make matters worse, a family who claim their daughter not only ate the cupcakes, but says she was shown explicit pictures by Cynthia Perkins and allegedly photographed, and videotaped the daughter. As the news site reports, all four lawsuits claim the Livingston Parish school board was negligent.

Following a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children last fall, cops began searching for the couple. The Daily Mail reports that the couple were allegedly found with a photograph of themselves naked with a minor. Cops says Dennis threw his phone off a bridge right before his arrest in an apparent effort to get rid of evidence.

The two remain in custody without bond. So far, a trial date has not been set yet.
