Reflecting On 12 2020 Moments That Changed The World
2020 was supposed to be our year, a new decade, new goals, and growth. However, early on it was clear that 2020 was not off to the best start.
Right when we thought ‘New Year, New Me,” Donald Trump dropped a bomb. A literal bomb, when he targeted Iran’s General Qasem Soleimani and his Iraqi lieutenant, which infuriated the Islamic republic and its allies. His death is still being talked about, with fear that Iran could retaliate on the anniversary.
The one remotely positive thing in January; Megxit, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their plan to ‘step back’ from senior Royal Family roles. They deserve a normal life!
Whew, we should have known it wasn’t going well from there. As the month passed, We dealt with the repercussions of killing Soleimani, but we weren’t prepared for what would happen next. A Ukrainian flight also crashed in Tehran, Iran, killing all 176 passengers on board. Iran took responsibility believing that it was a U.S threat.

As we prepared for the Grammy Awards on January 26, the carpet hadn’t even begun when the entire mood changed. Shockwaves went through the world as news broke that legendary NBA star Kobe Bryant has passed away in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. We later discovered that his daughter Gianna Bryant was accompanying him along with seven others. To this day our hearts ache for the seven lives lost.
February is when we should have canceled the year altogether! A respiratory disease was running rampant across China and had made its way to the U.S in January, but in February it became a cause for concern. The disease caused by the novel coronavirus, then referred to as 2019-nCoV, was officially named COVID-19 by the World Health Organization on February 11. The start of the pandemic and life as we know it.
February also took the life of Pop Smoke,at the time he was an up-and-coming rapper, now his music is celebrated everywhere. He was shot and killed while visiting Los Angeles.
March, only three months in and little did we know that there would only be a few more days left of being outside!
By the way did anyone notice that Tenet was in theaters for like 50 months of the pandemic?!
The WHO declares the coronavirus a pandemic and Donald Trump, after weeks of downplaying the virus, finally declared a national emergency on March 13, and many states began going into lockdown. We ran out of hand sanitizer, toilet paper and clorox. People claimed marshall law would be in place and the world went into chaos! Quarantine crazy became a thing. Masks, overloaded hospitals, and millions dying.
Then the police killed George Floyd in May sparking months of protests around America while we were still in a pandemic. May to July police clashed with protesters, rioters became involved and hijacked protests by looting. However, the news spread worldwide and protests for justice spread for Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and all the innocent black lives lost.
Then in August we were hit with more tragedy as talented “Black Panther” actor, Chadwick Boseman suddenly passed away from colon cancer. At this point 2020 took everything from us.

In October Trump got COVID and then got better and encouraged everyone else to get the virus for immunity purposes.(insert smacking head emoji here!)
November we saw some hope when Joe Biden became president, but then our beloved Jeopardy hosts Alex Trebek died.
Our final month in the year from hell brought us the COVID vaccine. Let’s pray 2021 gets better because can it really get any worse?!
