In a rare interview on CBS This Morning, iconic rapper Jay-Z sits with Gayle King and opens up like never before on his life and career.
While chatting, the two also discussed the viral question that has sparked big debates online: “Would you take $500,000 or have lunch with JAY-Z?” In a very honest answer, the business mogul said, “You gotta take the money.” The 53-year-old went on to say, “What I’mma say?”
Gayle King chimed in and noted that many people would assume that having lunch with him would be more beneficial and help them make more than $500,000 on their own. However, Jay-Z went on to explain that if it was him, he would take the money too. “Because you got all that in the music for $10.99. That’s a bad deal. I wouldn’t tell you to cut a bad deal,” he said. “Take the $500,000, go buy some albums and listen to the albums. It’s all there,” PEOPLE quotes.
Sharing more wisdom, he says, “If you piece it together and really listen to the music for the words, for what it is, it’s all there. Everything that I said was going to happen, happened. Everything that I said I wanted to do, I’ve done, and there’s the blueprint. The blueprint — literally — to me and my life and my journey is there already.”
Although this debate has been going on for years, Interestingly enough it came back up recently.
In a viral video posted last week, a fan who attended the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers game spotted Jay-Z and told him, “I’m taking that $500k. I ain’t taking that dinner. I’m taking that $500k…. you feel me? It’s love, though.” Jay-Z kept it calm and just dapped the fan up. He also tells the guy, “Be good, man.”

Now, there has been tons of debates with other rappers but those were more intense. Earlier this year fans went back and forth on choosing $250 worth of food stamps over a dinner with rapper Soulja Boy and let’s just say he wasn’t here for the conversations.
In angry response, Soulja Boy said,
“Suck my d*ck. Ya’ll ain’t ever gonna make it out the hood,” he started his rant. “Y’all ni**as gon’ die broke. I wouldn’t have dinner with y’all pu**y AIDS-infested h*es anyway. I would not have dinner with no broke a** bi**h from New Jersey anyway. I would not have dinner with no crackhead looking h*es anyway.” Ouch.
