Lil Scrappy is clarifying his initial response to finding out about Erica Mena getting fired over her “monkey” comment towards their ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta‘ co-star Spice. At first, Scrappy called the show’s producers “bozos” for terminating Mena, insinuating that “they set [her] up.”

As we previously shared, Erica Mena has been receiving tons of backlash after the latest episode of ‘LHH: ATL‘ premiered, showing her hurling out a racial slur at her Jamaican-born co-star Spice. After calling her a “blue monkey,” social media went up in flames, leading to heavy criticism on the parts of Mena and show producers.
Ultimately, production released a statement updating that Mena would not be returning for the following season of the show. The statement read, “The Love & Hip Hop franchise has never shied away from hard conversations in our community. Working hand-in-hand with our partners, viewers will see the impact of Erica Mena’s remarks play out in the final three episodes of the season. Effective immediately, she will not appear in the next season of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.”
Catching wind of Mena’s firing over her “monkey” comment, Scrappy was on Instagram Live and shared his initial thoughts on the matter. As the news broke, he said that he didn’t know if it was real or not, but felt like it was a “bozo” move for production to take, knowing they “set sh*t up.” He added, “They set you up, get you all hyped up, have somebody talk sh*t to you, and then you react, then they want to fire you.”
Scrappy also said that although he and Mena are no longer friends, he doesn’t agree with how ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta‘ producers handled the situation. He explained, “I don’t f**k with Erica at all. Like at all. But you know… if you put me in a position where a n***a talking about my kids and all that, we f**king fighting. I ain’t throwing no tables, we finna fight. They can fire me. They know that. I’mma still be me.”

Since Lil Scrappy’s initial comments on the Erica Mena’s “monkey” comment, he was later seen backtracking a bit and clarifying his remarks to ensure fans knew he wasn’t “taking up” for her, but just didn’t entirely agree with how the “bozos” in production handled things.
Scrappy said, “I do feel a certain kind of way when somebody says ‘monkey.’ You know what I’m saying? I do feel that because when it comes to ‘monkey,’ they done had us sitting in zoos. They done had Black men and Black women sitting in zoos like monkeys back in the day. So, I get that. I feel that.”
Scrappy added, “I wasn’t taking up for what Erica said, because I got a family. I am Black. I know what the f**k I am. Y’all always see me speak up for my people. I done been in marches. I done fought for my sh*t and everything. But, I was just looking at the fact that, you know, certain stuff happens and it put you in a situation where somebody will hit you low, and you just want to go way lower, just to come back. And what I was saying was she didn’t put herself in that situation… But she did. She really did. She bit her foot. And that’s just because I had a chance to look at it, because I don’t watch the show.”
He concluded, “It was kind of weird that they fired her, but when I looked at it and had conversations with myself and my friends, that is kind of crazy. That’s kind of deranged, calling motherf*kers monkeys and sht. Two Black people, we can talk like that, but when you’re not Black you can’t really [do that].”
