As we previously reported, back in April, the retail company got a judge to shut down the selling of Lil Nas X’s controversial “Satan shoes” that has their famous logo on them. Lil Nas debuted the shoe shortly after he dropped the music video for this latest single “Montero(Call Me By Your Name).” At the time, he announced his collaboration with the brand MSCHF where the company designed a pair of Air Max 97s with a pentagram interlocked on the tongue, the scripture Luke 10:18 in reference to Satan’s fall from Heaven, and x/666, indicating the number of each shoe. The soles contained 66 ccs of red ink and a single drop of human blood and the sneaker were released in limited pairs at a price of $1,018.
Nike released a statement explaining, “MSCHF has agreed to initiate a voluntary recall to buy back any Satan Shoes and Jesus Shoes for their original retail prices, to remove them from circulation.” Lil Nas X also issued “an apology” to anyone offended by the collaboration.
However, Nike later filed a lawsuit for trademark infringement. Ahead of his court appearance, Lil Nas X tweeted, “all jokes aside i can’t believe i might be going to jail. who’s going to make mildly funny tweets about being gay while i’m away.”
