Lakeith Stanfield and Kasmere Trice are a married couple AND parents to a new baby! The couple shared the exciting life update in an exclusive with PEOPLE.
As many can recall, the 31-year-old actor and 29-year-old announced their engagement on Instagram last December. Although they took to social media to share that news at the time, they decided to get married in private and also have a baby of their own. “We decided early on we wanted to protect our baby as much as we can for as long as possible,” Kasmere says of their child, whose name and sex they’ve chosen to keep.
LaKeith added: “Being in the public eye can be something that’s amazing, but it can also be something that is very hard on you. There need to be things that exist that are sacred and not for consumption for everybody.” Their reason for speaking out now: “We want to be the ones to tell our story. We’re bringing our family forward so we may inspire others.”
So What Was It Like Bringing In Their New Bundle Of Joy?
LaKeith, who also has two kids from last relationships recalled being supportive as he could be while she was his wife was labor, “All I ever tried to do in those crazy moments, like when she was in labor, was be a support system. That and figure out how many ice chips I needed to give her,” he says.
Ultimately, Trice was appreciative of his efforts and praised him for being an experienced dad:
“I’m really honored that I got to see the father in [him] before I was even having our baby,” she says. LaKeith, briefly spoke about his daughters and shared that they are “so fun and so smart.” However, he admits that trying to parent and deal with relationships in the spotlight is a challenging job. “Sometimes, when things can get difficult, you have to remember that what’s most important is the child,” he says, “and that we’re pushing ourselves to grow, so we can reflect back to them the good things.”
With a new marriage and a new baby to add to the family, LaKeith says, “We’ve manifested this beautiful family. I want to spend the rest of my life with her.”

The love boasting didn’t just end in his exclusive interview with PEOPLE. In a sweet post this Wednesday, he shared a sweet message to his wifey.
“If you’re fortunate enough in this life, you get to see your wildest imaginations manifested before your eyes. I am endlessly grateful to God for being able to achieve some of those things. The best part of it all was being gifted by the most high, a gorgeously intelligent and spiritually magnetic person to share life with. You too, can also turn those hopes into reality and work (and I do mean work) to bring about great things in this challenging, wonderful, terrifying, hilarious, painful, pleasure-filled experience called life. In any storm, we stand unified and work to create conditions for the perfect breeze within ourselves. I love you and congratulations on motherhood. 🌹”
