Lake Piru Opens For The First Time Since Death Of Naya Rivera

Lake Piru, the Southern California lake where ‘Glee‘ actress Naya Rivera was found dead after drowning, has opened for the first time since her death; however, with new restrictions.

43 days after her boating trip with her son, the man-made reservoir has reopened to the public; which was closed in-part by her death and intensified spread of COVID-19 in L.A. County. Officials at the lake say new rules are now in place to prevent future accidents like Rivera’s, and eight others who’ve lost their lives at the lake since 1994.

To begin, swimming in the lake is completely banned; and while officials say it’s due to the coronavirus pandemic, locals say it’s really to do with the drowning death of Rivera. The reopening and new regulations arrive after more than 12,000 people signed a petition calling for better warnings to swimmers regarding the debris below the water’s surface.

In addition to boating on the lake, picnicking, hiking and fishing activities have fully resumed as well. Additionally, the pontoon which Rivera rented has been removed from the fleet and placed in storage.
