Actress Kristen Bell leaves fans shocked after revealing that she doesn’t believe she’s “doing anything wrong” by letting her daughters, aged 8 and 9, drink non-alcoholic beer with her sober husband, 48-year-old actor Dax Shepard.

While stopping by ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show‘ on Monday (July 24), the 43-year-old mom said her daughters, Delta, 8, and Lincoln, 9, will sometimes kick back with their parents and get down on some non-alcoholic beers.
Bell admitted that the revelation “sounds insane,” but she explained that her daughters’ interest in brewskis all began when they were even younger. She said the girls used to join their mom and dad on walks around their neighborhood.
Bell said her husband is a “recovering addict,” adding, “But he likes non-alcoholic beer, so he’d pop one open, he’d have [our oldest daughter] on his chest, and we’d walk and look at the sunset. As a baby, she was pawing at it, and sometimes she’d suck on the rim of it. So, I think it feels to her like something special, something daddy, something family.”
The ‘Frozen‘ voice actress continued to reassure that all of the beers that her husband would drink and share with their daughters had absolutely “no alcohol” content. However, she did note that whenever the family went out to eat at restaurants, sometimes things would get a little weird.
The mom of two joked, “We’ve been at restaurants where [my daughter’s] said, ‘Do you have any non-alcoholic beer?’ And I’m like, ‘Maybe we just keep that for home time. But then I’m sort of like, ‘You can judge me if you want, I’m not doing anything wrong. That’s your problem.‘”
Bell and Shepard, who have been married since 2013, have been very transparent with the public about Shepard’s struggles with addiction, and they have kept the same energy with their children. Shepard has been sober for nearly two decades, with a brief relapse in 2020. In February, Bell told Real Simple that she and her husband do not keep much from their children.
She said she “hates the word ‘taboo'” adding, “There should be no topic that’s off the table for people to talk about. I talk to my kids about drugs, and the fact that their daddy is an addict and he’s in recovery, and we talk about sex.”
