According to E! the NBA icon and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna were laid to rest in a private Los Angeles funeral. As we reported Kobe and Gianna passed alongside Christina Mauser, John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Sarah Chester, Payton Chester and pilot Ara Zobayan in the chopper.
“Vanessa and the family wanted a private service to mourn their loss,” a source told ET. “The ceremony was extremely hard for everyone as it’s still hard for them to grasp they lost two beautiful souls.”
The funeral was a private ceremony attended by close family and friends, but, there will be a public memorial on February 24 at the Staples Center for everyone who loved Kobe.
“We are one city that believes in each other, believes in something bigger than ourselves,” Mayor Eric Garcetti has said. “We will absolutely do everything to make sure that this is done so that everybody can come to it as well.”
Vanessa Bryant confirmed the news of the public memorial on her Instagram. The NTSB is still investigating to determine a definitive cause for the crash.
