The sudden passing of controversial YouTuber Kevin Samuels has left social media in shock, with many people having rushed to Twitter and other platforms to share their condolences after his mother, Beverly Samuels-Burch confirmed the upsetting news to NBC News, saying, “That was a terrible thing for social media to put that out. I didn’t even know. I hadn’t even been notified. All I’m doing is requesting that people pray for us.”

Tens of thousands of tweets emerged in the wake of Beverly confirming her son’s demise. And while most people were respectful with their comments, others had a different view on things based on some not-so-nice comments Kevin had previously made about people of a certain age, color and weight. “All Kevin Samuels did was tell broke men and overweight women to be realistic and y’all out here acting like he was Scar from the Lion King … y’all weird,” one user wrote on Twitter.

Another person tweeted, “Regardless of if this Kevin Samuels news is true or not, you gotta be an evil MF to cheer for someone’s death because you don’t like some of the things they’ve said,” followed with one person that penned, “kevin samuels made a career off of bashing women and upholding oppressive gender standards and y’all want us to take the high road when we find out he passed away.” One tweet that generated a hefty response read, “Kevin Samuels has made a career off of shamelessly disgracing Black women for profit. He emboldened the most toxic individuals to project tired and harmful narratives about Black women.”

Some of the comments on social media were harsh but perhaps still somewhat valid, considering that Kevin’s comments were not just controversial but often in poor taste. “All I can say about Kevin Samuels is if you spend your time disrespecting people in life, don’t be surprised at people disrespecting you in death. No matter how cruel it may be, the legacy you leave behind will be known by the fruit you bore while you were here,” another social media user tweeted.

“Kevin Samuels hated all the women I love: fat blk women, ambitious blk women, women over 30, blk women with standards, black women that like sex, the blk girls that want to be taken care of. There was no value in what he said. But his silence is golden.”
