The topic of splitting 50/50 with your partner has come up again and now rapper Kevin Gates is weighing in.
In an Instagram Live, he was asked to share his thoughts on the topic… and he did. The “Stop Lyin” artist explained to his fans that, “I’m not speaking for everyone I’m speaking for me. I been in a relationship where the woman provided me intangible wealth. What she provided me with was no amount of money that could pay for that.” He continued, the woman just did everything to make my life peaceful and it motivated me and allowed me to focus and make more money.”
Gates went on to say: “I been in a relationship where she didn’t provide half of the rent but she provided a place of peace in order for me to reach my highest potential.” He continued to break it down: “It’s different types of wealth. I don’t look at wealth as something that’s out the pocket. I look at wealth as the heart and of the mind. Like are you providing me some that’s intangible?”
While this topic comes up nearly once a month, it became a big debate again after actress Gabrielle Union revealed that she and her husband Dwayne Wade split their bills 50/50. In a clip that is currently going viral online from the Black Millionaires podcast, actress Gabrielle Union explained, “In this household, we split everything fifty-fifty,” she told the show’s host.
The 50-year-old continued, “But in the other households that each of us have to support, there’s always this like, gorilla on your back, that’s like, ‘You better work, b—, you better work. Oh, you’re going to sleep in?’ You know, somebody might not eat.” She added, “It’s hard. It’s hard to let that go. So I’m working on that.”
Union, 50, and Wade have been married since August 30, 2014. According to OutQuick, the 41-year-old former NBA star, 41, retired from the league in 2019 after earning approximately $200 million during his time with the Miami Heat.
While speaking more on the show, Union admitted that she still has a “scarcity mindset” when it comes to her money as she always looks back on her come-up trying to make it in Hollywood. Despite her great success, she also admitted that she still struggles with securing financial security. “I struggle with that, still,” she said. “I think I just have more responsibilities for my money. I get nervous like, ‘Oh God, that movie didn’t open you know what does that mean? Do I – Am I … Am I going to have enough to hold everybody up?'”
However, to combat that, Union shares that she tries to find peace in the journey which helped minimize the anxiety.
