Kelly Rowland ‘Tortured’ Herself For A Decade Over Comparisons To Beyoncé

While she’s been vocal in the past about the constant comparisons to Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland recently revealed that she had “tortured” herself for a decade over critics’ comments about her living in the shadow of her best friend and fellow Destiny Child‘s group-mate.

During a recent episode of the ‘The Voice Australia,’ Rowland attempts to help mentee Chris Sebastian get out of his own head about living in the shadow of his older brother, Guy — an experience she knew all too well. The songstress opens up, “I know this feeling. Can you imagine what it’s like being a group with Beyoncé?”

She admits, “I would just torture myself in my head. Like, I can’t wear this dress because they’re going to say it’s like Bey. Or, I can’t have a song like that because it sounds too much like Bey. They’re gonna compare anyways. I would be lying if I said no, it’s never bothered me. That’s bull. There was a whole decade, if I am being completely honest, a decade, where it was like the elephant in the room. It was the thing that would constantly be on my shoulder.”
