Judge Royce Lamberth approved the request after Jacob Chansley’s lawyer, Albert Watkins, asked for his client to be released on bond since he didn’t for almost two weeks because eating “non-organic food” goes against his beliefs. He refused to eat the jail’s food after he was transferred from Phoenix where he performed a hunger strike for four days until a judge ordered for officials to serve his organic food.
The Department of Corrections in Washington D.C. claimed that Chansely failed to identify his beliefs to confirm his organic food diet and the Religious Service officials state that they were “unable to find any religious merit pertaining to organic food or diet for Shamanism Practitioner.”‘

Federal prosecutors opposed the idea of releasing Chansley on bond due to his participation in the riots and said his views in regard to anti-government and extremism provided more evidence against him for the case. Last month, he backpedaled and asked to testify during Donald Trump’s impeachment trial to prove that the former president convinced him and others to storm the Capitol building on Jan. 6.
