Joe Biden’s ABC Town Hall Viewership Beats Trump’s NBC, MSNBC & CNBC Event

Although Donald Trump received claps and compliments during his town hall event on Thursday, it appears that he also took another “L.”

As we previously reported, Trump decided to drop out of the second presidential debate after it was announced that it was going to be virtual. Instead, Trump decided that he would hold his town hall event, competing with Biden’s.

Trump, who’s all about “ratings” was confident that more people would be tuned into his event which was simulcast by two of NBC’s cable channels, MSNBC and CNBC. However, even being included in those channels, Biden’s event, which aired on just one network, still prevailed. According to CNN, Trump’s town hall averaged 10.6 million viewers on the NBC broadcast network. On MSNBC, Trump reached 1.74 million viewers, and on CNBC, about 671,000 viewers. So Trump’s gross audience across the three channels was 13 million; about one million fewer than Biden, who saw 13.9 million on ABC alone.

As Deadline notes, Trump’s town hall went on from 8 – 9 PM ET, while Biden took the win in terms of time with an 8 – 9:30 PM ET event since he didn’t actually leave for almost an hour after it was officially over as he decided to talk to voters one-on-one.

As of right now, it is unclear if another presidential debate will happen.
