Jimmy Kimmel Announces Leave From Talk Show Amid Blackface Controversy

Jimmy Kimmel announced on social media that he will be taking a break from his late-night talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” after images of him performing in blackface resurfaced online.

According to The Blaze,  Jimmy Kimmel made a video statement on Thursday that he would be taking “a couple of months off” during the summer after facing backlash for performing in blackface. A video clip resurfaced on social media where Kimmel is dressed up as former NBA player Karl Malone and portrayed him as someone with unintelligible speech and mannerisms. The sketch was aired on Comedy Central’s “The Man Show” where Kimmel worked as a co-host from 1999-2004.

 “I’m taking this summer off to spend even more time with my family. There’s nothing wrong. I’m healthy, my family’s healthy, I just need a couple of months off. While I’m gone, a cavalcade of very kind and capable people will be filling in for me.”

The episodes will start airing on July 6 and will feature a new guest-host each week. Kimmel was also scheduled to host the Emmy Awards on Sept. 20.
