Congratulations to Jennifer Hudson, who received EGOT status last night after A Strange Loop, which she executive produced, won best musical at the Tony Awards in New York City. With the addition of her latest win, the “Spotlight” singer completes her EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) collection, representing outstanding achievements in film, television, recording, and theatre.
What’s more, Jennifer is the second Black woman in history to have marked this incredible milestone in her career after Whoopi Goldberg. The monumental achievement now sees the 40-year-old join the likes of Rita Moreno, John Legend, and Audrey Hepburn as one of just 17 people who are part of the EGOT group. As fans will probably recall, Jennifer has earned two Grammys, one of which she received for her self-titled album back in 2009, and the second as one of the principal Broadcast cast members in The Color Purple, which won best musical theatre album in 2017.
Congratulations @IAMJHUD on your well-deserved Tony Award as producer of @StrangeLoopBway! This makes her the 17th EGOT in history, the 3rd-youngest EGOT, the 3rd-fastest journey to EGOT & the 2nd Black woman to achieve EGOT status. We can’t think of anymore more deserving! pic.twitter.com/DaFlIAsuxa

What Other Awards Has Jennifer Hudson Won?
In 2007, the former American Idol star received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in the 2006 drama musical Dreamgirls, co-starring Jamie Foxx, Danny Glover, and Beyonce. And last year, Jennifer earned herself an Emmy award for voicing the Forest in the animation short Baba Yaga, which she also happened to executive produce. Needless to say, J-Hud has quite literally become a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood.
The “If This Isn’t Love” vocalist had previously shared her desire to achieve EGOT status when she quipped, I should get two more dogs. I got a dog and named it Oscar, and then I won my Oscar. And then I got a dog and named it Grammy, and then I won my Grammy. So I think I should get some dogs and name them Emmy and Tony — and it’ll give me good luck, and I’ll win. [They’re] like my good luck charms.”
A Strange Loop, which took home best musical at the Tonys on Sunday evening, had scooped up an incredible 11 nominations. It ended up winning two in total, including best book of a musical, while some of its other notable cast members included RuPaul, Mindy Kaling, Billy Porter, and Alan Cumming.
Speaking of RuPaul, the 61-year-old is now half-way from reaching EGOT status following last night’s win, having already earned 11 Emmys for his ever-so-popular reality show, RuPaul’s Drag Race. The Tonys were hosted by Ariana DeBose at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Back in September, it was claimed that Jennifer was in talks to potentially star in Disney’s Hercules live-action remake, which Avengers: Endgame directors, The Russo Brothers, are confirmed to direct, while Wonder Woman 1984’s Dave Callaham has signed on to write the screenplay.
A source gushed, “The producers are in informal talks with actors and artists they want to appear in the live-action release and are keen on casting The Muses soon. At the moment they are most interested in Jennifer Hudson, The Shindellas, Teyonah Parris and a number of Broadway stars.”
