Jason Mitchell Portraying Sean Bell In Biopic Of The Man Who Police Killed Before His Wedding
Famously known for his role as Eazy-E in ‘Straight Outta Compton,’ and work on ‘The Chi,’ Jason Mitchell will now be portraying Sean Bell in a biopic of the Black man who police shot and killed hours before his wedding.
Bell’s story is noted as one of the most controversial police-involved shootings in recent history, and will now be told in the film aptly titled ‘50 Shots;’ which references the 50 bullets fired by NYPD officers in 2006, killing the 23-year-old in Jamaica, Queens, New York.

The incident occurred as Bell was wrapping his bachelor party with his father, William Bell, and two friends. Undercover cops, investigating a nearby strip club, opened fire on their car, believing the men were armed — which they were not. Outrage and protests broke out following the shooting, and four years later, Bell’s family won a settlement from the city for $7 million; however, the cops involved were fully acquitted.
In addition to portraying Bell, Mitchell will also be executive producing, alongside Tru of TruVision Films. The film hass been in the works for the past three years, with shooting taking place in Queens.
