Hurts began his college career at Alabama, where he served as a backup quarterback to Tua Tagovailoa. He played in a limited role during his freshman and sophomore seasons, but still managed to lead the Crimson Tide to the National Championship game in his freshman year. In his junior year, Hurts was benched in favor of Tagovailoa during the National Championship game, but he still played a critical role in helping the team secure the win.

After his junior season, Hurts transferred to the University of Oklahoma, where he became the starting quarterback. In his lone season with the Sooners, Hurts threw for 3,851 yards and 32 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,298 yards and 20 touchdowns. A lot of fans were disappointed when the Eagles came up short in the Super Bowl this year. But in a recent interview Hurts let it be known that he’s moving forward.s

“I have had the opportunity to watch it [the Super Bowl] and I think I’m going to move forward with all of those experiences in mind and try to use those things to better myself and grow and help the guys around me and we’re going to definitely use that as an experience to take a step and move forward,” Hurts told the team website after the 2022 season ended. “You have to look yourself in the mirror and assess it for what it is and do the things that need to be done to grow from it. I think that’s my mentality going on and I think that will be this whole entire team’s mentality moving forward.”
