In the latest episode of Facebook Watch’s “The Red Table Talk,” Jada Pinkett-Smith is joined by Will Smith’s ex-wife Sheree Zampino as the pair looked back on their heated exchanges in the early years of getting to know one another. Though the pair had previously touched on not exactly being the best of friends when Jada began dating Will in 1995 — just months before his divorce from Sheree — Jada has gotten much more specific about just how intense their dynamic was.
“I can remember some times that I really crossed the line,” the “Menace II Society” star admitted. “It was a lot of intertwining and it got kind of messy.” Jada later recounted how Sheree, who shares 29-year-old Trey with her ex, had once crossed the line when she marched herself into the couple’s master bedroom during a visit.
“It was early on,” Jada said, though she did admit to also having had a “fiery” attitude at the time. “I think you were just trying to, like, ‘I just need you to know who Queen Bee is around here’…She marched all up and in that house.” In contrast to where they stand today, however, Jada assured she “never” feels unsettled by how much Will and Sheree still “enjoy each other.”
“It takes time though,” she shared, prompting Sheree to interject, “I remember you coming to me, and you were teary, you were very emotional and you said, ‘I just didn’t know.’ And basically what you were saying is, ‘I was in the picture too soon.’ And you apologized for that.”
Sheree thanked Jada for the apology she gave her after realizing that just because Will was divorced, it most certainly didn’t mean that Sheree was out of the picture. It took a lengthy period for the pair to finally see eye-to-eye, but through the struggles they faced in the beginning, Jada and Sheree are closer than ever before.
“Coming into this, doing the blended thing, my only requirement was that you treated my son well,” Sheree told Jada. “You did that. And your heart was always right towards him, wanting the best for him.”
