Italy Closing All Schools Following Coronavirus Deaths

It is being reported that schools and universities in Italy are shutting down due to the increased amount of deaths from the coronavirus.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and Education Minister Lucia Azzolina have stated that all schools will be closed from Thursday, and remain shut until Sunday, March 15.

While Azzolina shares that the decision was not simple, but a necessary one, the Civil Protection Agency said today (Mar 4) that the country’s already seen 3,089 cases of coronavirus, including 276 recoveries and 107 deaths.

Furthermore, as schools are set to be closed, some have issued letters noting that remote online teaching will begin Friday, a day following the closures.

Additionally, the Italian education ministry has created a website, detailing information about deal with the virus, including prevention and treatment.

Currently, reports show that Italy is experience the brunt of the outbreak in Europe; with over 79 deaths reported.

Globally, 3,200 people have died, with more than 90,000 infected; the vast majority in China, where the virus first broke out late last year.
