Socialites, let’s keep the people of Iran in our thoughts and prayers. According to multiple reports, a soccer player has been sentenced to death by the Islamic Republic after a protest over Mahsa Amini’s death turned fatal. As per Iran Wire and Insider, AmirNasr-Azadani was detained last month after being accused of “waging war against God” by taking part in an “armed riot” which resulted in the death of a police colonel and two security agents while fighting Iran’s inhumane laws pertaining to women’s rights.
While it’s not actually clear whether Amir played a role in the demise of the security officers, Iranian officials are looking to make an example out of the athlete to send a clear message to other protestors that if they continue to riot against police, they’ll face fatal consequences. International soccer players union FIFPRO were stunned by the news of calls for Amir’s execution, saying they want the senseless act of punishment to be abolished.

“FIFPRO is shocked and sickened by reports that professional footballer Amir Nasr-Azadani faces execution in Iran after campaigning for women’s rights and basic freedom in his country,” the statement read. “We stand in solidarity with Amir and call for the immediate removal of his punishment.”
Iran has seen countless protests break out, with hundreds of people killed and injured as the war between its citizens and law enforcement officers continues. The country was left in shock following news of Amini’s death, the 22-year-old who mysteriously experienced an alleged heart condition after being arrested for not wearing her hijab correctly, causing her to lose her life.
Her family has spoken out since her death, saying that they don’t believe for one second Amini suffered from any sort of health problem when she was confronted by officers as to why her hijab was not being worn in the correct manner. Witnesses claim that Amini was actually beaten by police after being forced into a van — she was never seen again after that.

Amir started his career in soccer playing with the Rah-Ahan Tehran F.C. before a brief stint with Tractor SC and most recently joined the FC Iranjavan Bushehr.
It’s unclear what measures are being taken to prevent Amir from being executed but the people of Iran hope that by shedding light on the story, more people will become aware of the brutalities that continue to occur in the country.
