Indianapolis Teen Arrested In Mass Murder That Left 6 Dead, Including Unborn

A Plainfield, Indianapolis teen has been arrested in a mass murder that left 6 people dead, including an unborn child on Sunday (Jan. 24). In custody is a 17-year-old male, who likely be charged in a Marion Superior Court as an adult later this week.

On arrival to the grisly scene, Indianapolis Metro Police Department officials discovered the bodies and the suspect’s younger brother, suffering from gunshot wounds — currently recovering in the hospital. Fox59 reports that the deceased have been identified as the parents of the home, Kezzie and Raymond Childs, both 42, their 18-year-old son, Elijah, and 13-year-old daughter, Rita, and pregnant 19-year-old Kiara Hawkins, who was rushed to the hospital, but later died along with her near-full term unborn son.

The younger brother, recovering from gunshot wounds, first told police when arriving to the hospital that his older brother (the 17-year-old) was the gunman. Later, he claimed, “They killed my family.” His first claim was followed with his brother being reprimanded by his father for leaving the home without permission. Later, while the young boy stood downstairs with his parents, they heard gunfire upstairs and his sister yelling, “He shot them,” followed by more gunshots. He added, “[he] came down the stairs with a draco gun, a handgun that shoots rifle rounds, and started shooting.” The suspect ended up fleeing the scene, but hours later was found and arrested.
