Ice Cube and Nia Long are teaming back up!
Nearly 20 years after they teamed up in the sequel Are We Done Yet?, this dynamic duo is coming back for a third round in the Are We There Yet? franchise, as confirmed by Entertainment Weekly.
“This should be fun,” Long shared on social media.
Written by Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana, Are They Gone Yet? will see Ice Cube’s character, the formerly child-hating Nick Persons, tackling a new challenge: grandkids. The original Are We There Yet?, released in 2005, followed Nick as he started dating a single mother named Suzanne (Long) and ended up taking her wild kids (Aleisha Allen and Philip Daniel Bolden) on a chaotic road trip. After raking in almost $100 million, a sequel hit the screens two years later, with Are We Done Yet? showing Nick and Suzanne married and trying to build their dream home in the countryside.
The franchise even spun off into a sitcom in 2010, Are We There Yet?, which ran for three seasons on TBS, featuring Terry Crews and Essence Atkins stepping into the roles of Nick and Suzanne.

The upcoming third installment comes as Ice Cube is also pushing for a fourth and final Friday film. In 2024, he mentioned that there was “some traction” at Warner Bros. for Last Friday. Last month, Ice Cube and Mike Epps confirmed that a revival of the beloved stoner classic is in the works, focusing on the gentrification of South Central L.A. They even mentioned that original star Chris Tucker, who skipped the two sequels, “wants to come back.”
