Love Island star Huda Mustafa and her boyfriend Louis Russell are in hot water after a livestream clip of them laughing at a caller who dropped a racial slur aimed at Huda’s former castmate, Olandria Carthen, went viral across social media.
In the clip, the couple is seen chilling together on live, when a viewer, reportedly sounding like a child, calls in and says, “Olandria is a n***er.” Instead of immediately reacting in shock, Huda and Louis are seen bursting into laughter before quickly ending the call.
That laugh was all it took for the internet to light up. Fans and fellow viewers instantly began calling the moment “disrespectful” and “tone-deaf,” saying the pair should’ve known better, especially considering the serious nature of the slur. But Huda wasn’t about to let that narrative run unchecked.
Speaks Out After Clip Goes Viral
As the backlash gained traction, Huda jumped on her Instagram Story to explain what really went down. She claimed that she and Louis never heard Olandria’s name… just the slur itself and said they immediately hung up out of discomfort.
She wrote:
“Ya’ll first of all click bait using a sensitive topic is actually insane. me and louis did not hear what was said in that no caller id call on live, only the racial slur which we hung up immediately. i don’t condone anything of the sort. whoever called purposely continuously called while we were live. i really don’t condone racism which is why it was immediately hung up. once again we did not hear it very well considering it sounded like a child, only the last slur. i just wanted to address this before it blows out of proportion.”
Huda doubled down, saying their laughter had nothing to do with finding the comment funny, but everything to do with how awkward the situation was.
She added:
“Also laughter was because it was AWKWARD, like who the heck says something offensive like that on a call on his live and as you can hear me say ‘what did they say?’ and ‘they said a bad word,’ because that’s ALL i heard was the bad word. it was awkward and inappropriate, whoever said it is in the wrong.”
Her response didn’t calm everyone down, but it did shift the conversation some fans now saying trolls set them up to look bad.
Louis Russell Defends Huda Amid Backlash
Louis also came to his girlfriend’s defense, posting on Snapchat that the clip was being taken out of context. He reminded everyone that he’s Black himself and said people were just looking for a reason to hate on Huda.
According to Louis, the “world” was twisting the situation to make them look like they condoned racism when that wasn’t the case at all.
Still, the internet remains divided. Some users say the couple’s reaction was immature and disappointing, while others think the outrage is exaggerated, especially since Huda claimed they immediately ended the call.
Olandria Has Yet To Respond
As of now, Olandria Carthen hasn’t addressed the situation publicly. Fans are waiting to see if she’ll speak up or if she’ll let the internet do the talking for her.
Until Olandria responds, drop your thoughts in the comments. Was it just bad timing and awkward nerves, or were Huda and Louis way out of line?
