HS Announcer Removed After Calling Opposing Team’s Names ‘Disgusting’
A Newkirk, Oklahoma high school basketball announcer has been removed after he called the names of the opposing team, “pretty disgusting.”
While reading the lineup of girls, the announcer was heard saying, “Now their names are pretty disgusting, but I’m going to try to call them out.”

The opposing team’s principal, Laura Knight, of Crooked Oak HS, wrote how “shocking” the incident was; and added, “Their administration sought out ours to apologize. Their fans, administrations and coaches treated us well. I know that does not take away the hurt, but please know that they took care of it, it was not ignored.” Newkirk Public Schools has since issued an apology.
Superintendent Brady Barnes shared, “In around 20 years of announcing Newkirk games, this is the first time something like this has occurred. While he did not make any similar comments, I made the decision to replace him at halftime.”

While the statement doesn’t directly state any actions that were further taken against the announcer, Barnes stated that he sincerely apologizes for “pain or affront our announcer’s comment has caused Crooked Oak players, parents, patrons, and school employees.”
