The nine-month-old tiger named India was found safe late Saturday night, almost a week after he went viral on social media when a neighbor recorded the tiger walking around the neighborhood. Houston Police Department Commander Ron Borza said during a news conference that India was accompanied by his owner’s wife and transported to a local animal shelter since the animal was experiencing stress.
“The tiger was passed around a little bit, but ultimately Gia knew where the tiger was at all times. If it wasn’t with her, she knew where it was at.”

Charges have yet to be filed against India’s alleged owner, 26-year-old Victor Hugo Cuevas, and it is unknown how he came in possession of the big cat. Before India’s safe return, “Tiger King” star Carole Baskin offered a $5,000 reward for any information regarding the animal so he can be placed in a sanctuary.
“Carole Baskin, founder and CEO of Big Cat Rescue is offering a $5,000 reward to the person responsible for the immediate, safe hand over of India the Tiger to a sanctuary that is accredited by the Global Federation of Sanctuaries provided that person’s efforts with law enforcement is sufficient to convict both buyer and seller involved in the transfers of the tiger.”
India will be sent to the Cleveland Armory Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison and will live there for the rest of his life.
