Would You Try It? Houston Ice Cream Shop Serves Up Crawfish Flavored Ice Cream

It’s reported that the ice cream shop first began serving up the flavor back in 2019, but it was for only a limited time. However, the unique flavor has made it’s way back to the creamery.

When asked about how they came up with the idea to make ice cream with the flavor of some succulent crawfish, Red Circle owner Nickey Ngo recalled the moment with ‘Houstonia Magazine.’

Ngo explained how she and her husband were going out to dinner one night and eventually ended up ordering up and chowing down on some crawfish.

Ngo explicitly recalls, “The juices were flowing down my fingers. I own an ice cream shop, so the natural lightbulb moment came on and I said, ‘This would make a great ice cream flavor.’”

However, the at Red Circle, their crawfish flavored ice cream does not necessarily contain any crawfish in the mixture. Instead, Ngo and her team strategically crafted a dessert with a balance of three flavor profiles: sweet, salty and spicy. The ingredients of the crawfish flavored ice cream include Old Bay, garlic, paprika, cayenne, umami, and butter.

The ice cream shop also tops off the creamy dessert with some unique garnishes like: actual shelled crawfish, churros, a Hong Kong style bubble waffle, macarons, and many more options.

Ngo also offers a tip to patrons by telling them to crack open the crawfish topping to get to the meat in its tail, then fill up the head with ice cream, and suck it out for a different type of crawfish eating experience.

As mentioned above, the crawfish flavored ice cream has been offered at the Houston based shop seasonally and for a limited time every year or so. Apparently, they offer it to coincide with spring break.
