As CNN reports, the sweeping legislation covers a range of priorities, including funding to enhance security across the Capitol grounds as well as provisions to bolster protections and increase preparedness for lawmakers, including at their district offices, and the Capitol Police force. Progressives almost blocked the bill in a last-minute effort because they did not support the funding in the bill that goes to the police, the news site notes.
Now that the House has approved the bill following a 213-212 vote, it will need to pass the Senate before it can go to President Joe Biden’s desk.

As we previously reported, the insurrection Jan. 6 temporarily halted the counting of Electoral College votes that confirmed President Joe Biden beat ex President Donald Trump. MAGA supporters swarmed through the Capitol, vandalizing offices and injured officers. Five people died, including Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died the day after the attack.
