The unidentified male employee was arrested on Thursday after the Aurora Medical Center conducted a thorough investigation regarding the vaccines. Grafton police reported the incident happened last weekend when the employee removed the Moderna  vaccines from a pharmacist refrigerator and destroyed more than 500 doses. According to NBC News, authorities charged him on suspicion of recklessly endangering safety, adulterating a prescription drug, and criminal damage to property.

Additionally, the hospital said the employee intentionally left the vaccines out overnight as they are supposed to be stored at a temperature between 36 and 46 degrees Fahrenheit.

In a statement, they verified the employee’s termination and called his actions “a violation of our core values.”

“We continue to believe that vaccination is our way out of the pandemic. We are more than disappointed,”

Most of the vaccinations were thrown out but the hospital managed to administer 50 doses. However, they later learned that those doses were ineffective and had to contact patients to have the shots again.
