Actor and former Obama administration staffer Kal Penn revealed in his new memoir that he has come out of the closet and is currently engaged to his partner Josh.

In his new book, ‘You Can’t Be Serious’, Penn said his close friends and family were the only people who knew about his sexuality and 11-year relationship with Josh until the publishing of his book. He said the pair started hanging out during his one day off from the White House and they decided to have a pack of beer together.
‘I thought, “This obviously is not going to work out,” I have one day off from The White House and this dude is unironically watching cars go around and make left turns? Next thing you know, it’s been a couple of months and we’re watching NASCAR every Sunday.’

According to PEOPLE, Penn is excited to share his relationship with the world but he has protected their identities so his personal life can remain private.
‘I’m really excited to share our relationship with readers. But Josh, my partner, my parents, and my brother – four people who I’m closest to in the family – are fairly quiet. They don’t love attention and shy away from the limelight.’
