Hannah Payne,25, was found guilty of the murder of Kenneth Herring,62, and faced several charges, which included malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and possession of a firearm. According to WSB-TV, prosecutors said Herring struck a car and drove off in May 2019, but Payne followed him, confronted him, then shot him despite ignoring repeated orders from a 911 operator not to pursue him.
Her attorneys said Payne was told to get his license plate number, which caused her to follow him, and he reportedly shot himself during an alleged struggle over the gun. During her testimony, she explained to the jury that Herring cursed at her and started attacking her when she tried to get him to return to the crash site.

“‘Who the F are you?’ And I told him I was nobody. I had police on my phone and they wanted us to go back to the scene. He knocked my phone out of my hand and he grabbed me by my waist and he pulled me into the vehicle.”
During the trial, Payne reportedly became emotional after hearing her 911 call. Witnesses said they witnessed Payne cursing at Herring and punching him.
Social media reacted to the outcome of the case as they compared it to the Trayvon Martin case, where George Zimmerman fatally shot the teen despite ignoring requests from a 911 operator not to pursue him.
Payne’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Friday.
