Georgia Election Worker ‘Forced Into Hiding’ After False Claims Of Throwing Out Ballots

On Friday evening (Nov. 6), Fulton County election officials announced that a Georgia election worker had been “forced into hiding” after a tweet falsely claimed to show him throwing out ballots.

As the state’s largest county holds the largest number of provisional ballots to count at 3,612, per Elections Supervisor Rick Barron, there are also more than 900 military and overseas ballots to be counted. While counting was taking place, Barron says a worker “is in hiding,” after he was falsely accused of crumbling and discarding a ballot after a viral Twitter video blazed the internet.

Subsequently, elections investigators and Barron reviewed the video, showing the worker at an envelope cutting machine — which is used to cut the envelopes so you can separate the outer envelope from the inner. Barron said in a statement, “However one thing that you need to know is that those ballots are 8 ½ by 19 inches long. At no time did you see him extract anything from the envelope and that crumbled piece of paper, they were instructions and it was a smaller piece of paper.” Barron adds, “[The worker] is having to leave his house and go stay with friendsHe’s afraid to drive his car because the information about his car, about his license plate are out there.”
