As Joe Biden Surpasses Donald Trump in Georgia, Social Media Thanks Stacey Abrams

As of early Friday morning, Joe Biden has taken the lead over President Trump in the crucial state of Georgia as votes continued to be counted for the presidential election. As the New York Post notes, Biden led Trump by over 917 votes in the Peach State, bringing him on the right path to a victorious 270 electoral votes.

In addition to Biden, Stacey Abrams is also being praised as many believe the former VP’s sudden success in the otherwise reliably red state would not have been possible without the relentless efforts of the former Georgia legislator and voting rights defender. Abraham’s activism over the last two years is said to have sparked a major change that has helped transform the state into a key-battleground during the presidential race in 2020.

After losing the state’s governors election to Republican Brian Kemp back in 2018 — a race that was surrounded by allegations of voter suppression — Abrams founded two nonprofits called ‘Fair Count’ and ‘Fair Fight Action’ to ensure that each vote was given its due. According to The Indiana Express, since then, the organizations have been able to register an estimated 800,000 new voters, with a focus on minority voters! Here’s how social media reacted to Abrams and Georgia as well as Pennsylvania pulling through.
