Georgetown Law Professor Fired After Complaining About Black Students On Zoom
Sandra Sellers, a Georgetown Law professor, has been fired after she was caught on a recorded Zoom meeting complaining about her Black students and their performance in class.
In a clip that’s made its rounds on social media this week, Sellers thought she was having a private conversation with another faculty member, David Batson. She says, “You know what? I hate to say this, I end up having this angst every semester that a lot of my lower ones are Blacks, happens almost every semester. It happens almost every semester, and it’s like, oh, come on. You know, we get some really good ones but there also usually are some of them that are just plain at the bottom. It drives me crazy.”

Following the video surfacing, the Georgetown Black Law Students Association (BLSA) said Sellers was talking about the only Black student in her class, and called for her to resign. Batson, the other faculty member, is also being called on to publicly apologize for his “failure to adequately condemn” Sellers and her comments. BLSA stated, “We demand nothing short of the immediate termination of Sandra Sellers as adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center. Not suspension. Not an investigation. The University must take swift and definitive action in the face of blatant and shameless racism.”
On Wednesday, Georgetown Law Dean Bill Treanor called Sellers’ remarks “reprehensible,” adding, “We are responding with the utmost seriousness to this situation.” Treanor also confirmed Sellers “is no longer affiliated with Georgetown Law.
