School officials reported that a printed-out version of George Floyd’s toxicology report was pinned to a bulletin board on Saturday. The display was a tribute to black people who were victims of police brutality and violence but the pinned out included a note that reads: Mix of drugs presents in difficulty breathing! Overdose? Good Man? Use of fake currency is a felony!” However, the independent medical examiners ruled that Floyd’s underlying health issues contributed to his death despite the original report from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The printed report was found by freshman student Matt Mohn and he reported it to a resident advisor who took the paper down 30 minutes after the call.

A statement was released from the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards asking anyone to come forward with information.

“If Duke students are found to be responsible for this act, the Office of Conduct and Community Standards (OSCCS) will issue sanctions to the responsible student(s). Any incident that is motivated in whole or part by an individual’s race, warrants “acceleration” or elevation of sanctioning due to the impact on the community. Any conduct outcomes will be confidential under FERPA, but OSCCS will report aggregate conduct outcomes for the 2020-21 academic year in August 2021. If the investigation does not identify a responsible student, we will inform the community of that outcome on or before April 15 as part of our monthly conduct update.”

The school said they are also providing direct outreach to Black students who may have been triggered by the incident.
