Well dang! Looks like GAP slapped Kanye West with a lawsuit over a Los Angeles building that was previously used as a Yeezy store.
According to TMZ, GAP is coming for Kanye West because of a separate lawsuit that the company got tied into from Art City Center. Back in 2022 the City Center sued GAP for a breach of contract, but the clothing brand feels like it’s Ye’s fault that they were rapped up the mess. Art City Center reportedly leased a building in downtown Los Angeles to Gap, which used the location for a Yeezy store from 2021 to 2022. Gap wasn’t allowed to make alterations to the building without approval.
So GAP was hit with a lawsuit after it allegedly “completed numerous, significant, unapproved modifications.” Art City Center alleged the building hasn’t been restored to its original condition in the lawsuit against Gap. Art City Center sought $1.5 million in damages. But GAP is blaming it all on Kanye because they claim he’s the one who allegedly made all the changes and they shouldn’t be held responsible for changes he made. So they are seeking $2 million in damages from Ye.
GAP and Kanye West have always been at odds after their previous partnership. As we previously shared, back when Ye was trending everyday for his anti-Semitic comments GAP threatened to take “immediate steps” to remove Yeezy products.
In a statement, Gap explained, “In September, Gap announced ending its Yeezy Gap partnership,” the company wrote said this Tuesday (Oct. 25). “Our former partner’s recent remarks and behavior further underscore why. We are taking immediate steps to remove Yeezy Gap product from our stores and we have shut down Yeezygap.com.”
GAP wasn’t the only company who had issues with Kanye West, Adidas also shocked everyone and terminated their relationship with him, which left them with $1.3 billion worth of unsold Yeezy’s.
According to NPR, Adidas still has $1.2 billion worth of unsold Yeezys and they weren’t exactly sure what to do with them in their inventory. “We are working on different options,” CEO Bjorn Gulden said during an investor’s call. “The decisions are getting closer and closer.”
In more recent news, Adidas came up with a plan and decided to give a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the remaining Yeezy inventory to the Philonise & Keeta Floyd Institute for Social Change, the family foundation of police brutality victim George Floyd. On Friday the company announced they will begin selling the remaining inventory towards the end of this month. “After careful consideration, we have decided to begin releasing some of the remaining Adidas Yeezy products,” said Adidas CEO Bjørn Gulden in a press release.
“Selling and donating was the preferred option among all I rganizations and stakeholders we spoke to. We believe this is the best solution as it respects the created designs and produced shoes, it works for our people, resolves an inventory problem, and will have a positive impact in our communities. There is no place in sport or society for hate of any kind and we remain committed to fighting against it.”
